VFX
VFX changes a shot you already have instead of generating a new one. The clip keeps its place in the timeline; only the picture changes.
Select a clip (or drag a range with the R tool) and open the Effects tab in the inspector.
What you can do
- Swap actor — replace a person in the shot with another, from a reference image or another subject in frame.
- Replace background — put the subject somewhere else. Use a plate with no people in it: anyone in the image comes along.
- Add / remove object — put something in the frame, or take something out.
- Relight — change the lighting of the shot.
- Extend shot — add seconds to the tail.
Draft, Final, Coverage
- Draft — the same prompt at low resolution. For checking the idea cheaply.
- Final — full resolution.
- Coverage — two takes from two engines, so you can pick the one that worked.
The credit estimate updates as you switch, and is shown on the Generate button.
Warnings before you spend
Filmera analyses the shot first and warns about things that are known to go wrong, before charging anything:
- More than one person in frame and no choice made about who to replace.
- A face that is small in frame — identity fidelity drops on wide shots.
- Contact points (hands on surfaces, feet on ground) that may not line up with a new background.
- A locked-off camera when removing a static object: the background behind it is never revealed in any frame, so expect a blurred patch rather than a clean fill.
- A daylight preset that contradicts practical lights that are visibly on.
Some of these are warnings; a few block the run because it would almost certainly be wasted. The message says which and what to change.
Length limits
VFX works on a window of source video. Very short ranges and very long ones are rejected with the exact limit in the message — widen or narrow the range on the timeline.
